So, there's this one-shot... and it's intense and painful, it's as I described- "Beautifully fucked up." Really.

I was in a writing challenge, working on The Adventures of Peeperward and Stripperella, and ArcadiaMaggie started to tell us about what she was working on. She even posted a lil' snippet involving bathroom sex... it was HOOOOOOT! Wow. Nothing like angry, slam bodies around, wall humping, no? I'm no shipper of anything with Paul in it usually, but this scene had me panting.


Then I read ArciadianMaggie's warning: "AN: Please read WARNINGS - contains graphic content and possible triggers. I originally outlined this story for the Beyond the Pale contest (http:/www .fanfiction .net/u/2431148/BeyondThePale), which called for "stories inspired by images that imply secret desires,habits, and happenings. Fetish and deviance. The forbidden. Thesocially UNacceptable. What goes on behind closed doors only. What pushes beyond the pale. The otherwise untouchable. Thetaboo." Because I was in the middle of my multi-chapter and realized I worked best only writing one piece at a time, I set it aside. This story skirts lines, and some might say crosses lines, oft advertised in other contests: "No entries containing rape, bestiality, pedophilia, incest, or non-consensual sex will be accepted into the contest."

And thought.... "Ooooh... maybe not."

Then I read a review, one of the first saying that she took such a hard topic with all these taboos and grey areas and did an amazing, truthful job, so again, my interest was piqued! I am one curious kitty... so you know that was the wrong thing for me to see cos I wanted to read it again!

Then I saw her summary: Leah went from a young woman in love to the only female in a pack of mind-reading shape shifters, led by the Alpha Sam, her ex. Rated M. Contains mature content.

And thought, well, this could go really well and be a lil' angsty with a cool turn... OR it could go REALLY badly and I will be left heart broken!

Well, my friends, it was both. It was angsty, it had a cool turn (and some WTF?! turns), and there was a part that turned VERY badly that made my heart crack open, then another, then another, and another! All the while, Maggie is intermingling these incredible lemons that have you sweating citrus and this internal dialogue from Seth and Leah that just tears out your heart, rubs it in the dirt, then rinses it off and hands it back to you with Hello Kitty band-aids on it!

I don't want to ruin the story with too many details, but that summary and her warnings are right on. This story is NOT for the lighthearted or wusspervs. It is, however, incredibly pressing and intense... it pushes boundaries, yet even though I was uncomfortable and creeped out at some parts, it all made COMPLETE and TOTAL sense. I'm not kidding... if you read with an open mind, keeping in mind that they are wolves... it is achingly, painfully perfect! No, really!

Some of the most amazing parts are Leah's internal dialogue... so well written and emotional. And Seth! Oh, god! Seth. I need to know more of Seth. And the scene between Quil and Seth was in one word- WOW!

Truly, this was an incredible, mind-blowing journey all in about 10,000 words. In the end, I was left wanting more and I had so many questions. She said that she's thinking of continuing it in some way and I truly, truly hope she does.

Maggie, if you are reading this, doubtful, but whatever- Please write more. I need to know what happens to Seth!!! And Leah's journey was crazy and passionate and so much more than I thought it would be, but it's not done! Thank you for putting this out there and being so brave!

It's finally here....my spotlight on twilightheaded23's amazing stories! This past weekend was spent reading her 4 one-shots and multi-chapter WIP Masquerade. If you haven't read any of her work, you are seriously missing out! Check out my small review of each story and see for yourself....

Falling in the Dark 

Edward saves an innocent girl from imminent death, but what he finds in the dark will change things forever. 

This author sure loves her twists, There Will Be Blood had me shocked and smirking half way through. Don't be fooled by the summary, Bella is not the damsel in distress in this one-shot!

One Shot Push

Hey all! I'm so very sorry to all that I've been an absent Wayward. My life took an unexpected turn for the totally busy, and I honestly haven't had much time to read or write. I do occasionally pop in here to see what's what. Now I've taken my entrance exam, and am waiting for word on if I'm beginning the nursing program this fall. Cross your fingers for me please! Now, I've been busy, yes, so my push today is a one shot. I don't think we do a whole lot of them. This is a new one, not for any type of contest, and I thought it was so sweet and funny, I couldn't help but share. I want more, and need your help to convince the author to write another chapter or two about it! AbruptlyChagrined wrote the amazingly cute A Day at Magicland, and I'm super glad she did!

Summary: Poor college student Bella is on the worst date of her life with Mike at Magicland amusement park. On top of that, a creepy costumed character is stalking her around the park. A Semi-sweet, sorta crackfic. AU AH Rated M for a few F-bombs.

Host Choice winner:  And So It Is by reluctantreader 

Summary: His job was to ensure her immortality. But when he falls in love with her instead, his ignorance will be the downfall of them all.

What happened after the confrontation with the Volturi at the end of Breaking Dawn?  Did they leave and let the Cullens live in peace?  Or did their embarrassment over the situation lead them to take action?

Alec is assigned to watch Renesmee’s growth and development to ensure that the Halfling wouldn’t cause problems for the vampire world.  But do the Volturi have more in mind than just that?  Will Alec simply be a pawn used by his masters to retaliate against the Cullens? 

Over the course of time Alec and Renesmee become much closer.  They grow from friends to much, much more.  But how will this relationship affect the Cullens? Will it lead to their demise? And how will Nessie heal? 

I applaud any author that has the courage to write a story that contains non-canon couples.  Reluctantreader has done a beautiful job of mixing canon and non-canon aspects into this heartbreaking tale of love and loss.

1st Place Judge’s Choice:  Made of Choices by Vampire Extraordinaire

Summary:  Thomas King said that "the truth about stories is that that's all we are." However, Bella and Edward will prove that it is the choices we make and the decisions we act on that will define us. A story of tumbling love, told in pictures.

I struggle over the right way to describe this story, without giving away too much of the plot. Suffice it to say, it is beautiful, achingly-heartbreaking, and superbly written. Inspired by the haunting melody and moving lyrics of Muse’s Unintended, Vampire Extraordinaire powerfully transforms music into story. When I read Made of Choices, I could actually hear the song in my head, it fit so well with the theme.

Made of Choices tells Bella and Edward’s story through a series of photographs on a mantle. Each picture depicts a pivotal event in the couple’s life – some happy, some not so happy.

The mantle is special. It tells the story of love – perhaps, love lost, to be more accurate. Five pictures explain everything. And with each picture comes a new conclusion, a new beginning.

As the title implies, the story looks at the choices this couple makes. And, although you do believe that they are fated to be together, it’s less about destiny, and more about commitment – a commitment they both make to stand by each other even amidst small-town gossip and small-minded people. Bathed in the rose-colored glow of young love, they believe they can conquer anything as long as they stand by each other – and for a moment, you believe it too.

All is not hearts and flowers for this Bella and Edward, however…and unexpected tragedy rips at their relationship, threatening to destroy all that they had worked for. How Vampire Extraordinaire resolves this conflict I’ll leave for you to discover, but let me just say, it is an ending that will stick with you – and most likely bring tears to your eyes.

I was thrilled to learn that this story won the contest, as it was one of my personal favorites. Congratulations to Vampire Extraordinaire for so effectively capturing the ups and downs of a relationship in such a beautiful and bittersweet tale.

1st Place People's Choice: Irreversible by LFC Hotstuff

Summary: Edward and Bella were thrown together by an irreversible act of fate that could alter their lives forever. Both deny their feelings for each other. How far would they go to keep their emotions hidden?

After a horrible car accident Edward awakens in a hospital unable to move his legs.  He’s crushed to learn that he may never walk again.  Doctors assure him that there is a small chance he could return to full function with extensive physical therapy. 

Edward has a hard time coming to terms with his disability.  He pulls away from the world and lashes out at others.  He simply wants to be the man he once was.

Upon arriving home his parents, Esme and Carlisle, hire a full time physical therapist to move into their home and aid in Edward’s recovery. 

Will Edward turn his bad attitude on her? Will she take it?

This is a story of falling in love under unusual and unwelcome circumstances, and what happens when that love is realized. 

LFC Hotstuff does a fantastic job of conveying Edward’s pain and his struggles.  She takes us through his journey of coming to terms with himself and his true feelings. 

We also get a brief look into Bella’s mind and what she is experiencing through this.  What will Bella do we she realizes her feelings?  Check out Irreversible to see.

In this often funny, sometimes heart breaking tale, Bella is a celebrity reporter in a relationship with correspondent journalist Edward.  Distance strains their relationship, but through phone calls and secret on-air messages embedded in their reports, they manage to keep in touch and express their love. 

When a miscommunication, and the flirting of one sexy leading man with perfect abs, leads to a heart-wrenching separation, will Bella be willing to fight for their love?  Will Edward?  And how will Bella react when she learns that Edward has accepted a job that puts even more distance between them?

This story keeps you hoping that Bella and Edward will each overcome their obstacles and end up together forever.  How will the authors cosmoandmarvar end this tale?  Will we all get the happy ever after that we long for?  You’ll have to read to find out!

Summary:  Twenty years is both a moment and a lifetime when your path leads you away from the one you can't forget. When you lose your way, sometimes you need to go back to the beginning.
                                               
Almost everyone remembers the ‘perfect’ couple in high school; the couple that was inseparable, who had the relationship that seemed as if it was written in the stars.  And almost everyone wonders once in a while what happened to this couple after school. 

Bella and Edward were the ideal couple in high school that seemed destined to be together, however, once Edward is accepted to the college of his dreams their paths diverge and life puts them through many experiences both happy and sad.  Still they both held onto the love of their innocence and felt the torturous yearning for their lost soul mate. 

Bella and Edward’s high school reunion is coming up, and this story answers the question of whether or not these two will ever be reunited. 

Risbee does a fantastic job of weaving the past with the present in this story.  This is a wonderful story of what was, what could be, and what has been written in the stars.

2nd Place Judge’s Choice:  Crown of Love by mephis1

Summary:  What happens when she returns to remind several friends, who are scattered to the four winds, that it's time to go home? "They say it fades, if you let it".

The poetic beauty and the dark tone of this story captivated me from the very start. As each scene unfolded, I became more ensnared in Bella's lurid motivations and cringed as she achieved her revenge.

By the end of this beautifully written story, I found myself rooting for her. I especially loved the final scene between the two separated lovers, the couple reunited beneath a romance consisting of the darkest complexity.

mephis1 was able to craft a story that was frightening and captivating. Even in death, Edward's features are peaceful. I felt the same, when I finished reading this story. I felt as though he was finally able to wear his crown of love, and so might she. The author made me believe that it was exactly as it should be, and that we should feel peaceful too. It was superbly done!

Summary: 'These wounds won't seem to heal. This pain is just too real. There's just too much that time cannot erase.' Does Bella still have all of Edward? AUAH, Angst/Hurt/Comfort

Goodness, I will never forget my initial reaction after completing this story for the first time, my mouth opened in shock and goosebumps forming on my skin. The shock factor, and the build up to it, was perfectly done.

From the very beginning, the sad tone of Bella's feelings and thoughts are palpable. The readers are given the distinct impression of her despair, and then we are shown Edward's reactions, his desperate sobs taking over and reacts, and then emotionally pulls back. As the story progresses, so do the range of emotions, until the reader realizes the twist at the end. It was so well done! I had to read it again, to see if I could connect the dots, and I realized just how well elusivetwilight crafted this story. Fantastic job!

Summary: Bella's friends are convinced Edward isn't faithful to her because he's always on the road. What will it take to prove to them he always has been, and always will be, true to Bella?

“A man is only as good as his word.”  A woman wants to trust that the man she loves will live up to his word no matter what obstacles or changes they face in their relationship. Edward has promised to always be there for Bella, and Bella has trusted his word. 

While Bella is in college Edward is in a band that becomes quite popular and he begins to live the rock-star lifestyle; parties, traveling, shows, etc. Bella’s friends encourage her to move on and try to convince her that he can’t possibly be as committed to her as he leads this lifestyle, but still Bella holds on to their love’s strength to keep them together. 

A tragic accident will test Bella and Edward’s commitment to each other and their relationship.  Will they be able to overcome all the odds by trusting in each other’s word?

Summary: When Edward hears the siren's call what lengths will he go to overcome the alluring pull it causes him? Rated M for lemony flavored words.

When the moans of one woman relentlessly torment Edward he is forced to try to ‘sex’ her out of his system.  But when these strangers moans make him fake his own orgasm will he be forced to hand over his ‘Man Card’?  When woman after woman is unable to fulfill his needs or turn him on as much as the sounds floating into his window, what will he do?
                                                                    
Edward finds himself in an unfamiliar bar trying to drink his troubles away.  Just maybe this will be the place he meets the woman that’s able to get past his ‘O’ crippling obsession, or just maybe she is the woman creating the earth shattering sounds.  I guess you’ll have to read to see…

Summary: Bella spent years picking up the pieces of her best friend's broken heart. After one night that went way too far, Bella is ready to give up the one man she truly loves. But is he ready to let her go?

A good friend is hard to find and even harder to be, especially when you best friend is hot, in a relationship, and doesn’t know you love him. 

We’ve all had secret crushes.  The stomach wrenching pain of wanting to blurt out your love, fearing rejection, watching you crush in a relationship with someone else, all while remaining a true friend, is almost too much to bear. 

Bella finds herself in this predicament with Jasper, constantly being a friend for him as he goes through a tumultuous relationship with this girlfriend.  Will things go too far one night when Jasper spends the night after another fight?  How far will Bella take it?  And will Jasper feel the same?

Mizzdee has woven an emotionally strong story of the ups and downs of love and the plight of loving someone as more than just the friend they are.

I didn't expect much when I discovered the story. It had little reviews, I assumed because it is Jasper&OC (which I guess are not that popular, though for me it's not a problem). So, I just scanned over it, but what my eyes caught, caught my attention.

I fell for it completely!

We meet Jasper, the non-vegetarian vamp, in a for him new situation where his inner beast struggles with his "romantic" side, which has just been confronted with his singer, Isabel.

By inner monologue, he reveals his want, lust, love, passion, his craving.

The writer has an awesome ability to let us readers participate in his thoughts and has us crave badly for dangerous, dark, possessive Jasper (if we aren't already anyway!).

There is something strange about mysterious Isabel you can't really put your finger on and the ending is resolved with a twist that leaves a lot of possibilities open. Well, the ending IS left open, which might scare off some readers, but I've found myself engaged in many interesting convos about it already.

The one more thing I can reveal without giving too much away is, that Jasper and Isabel engage in some very, very hot scenes, which are in several ways not intended for the weak of hearts!

It's not HEA, it's surprising and will leave you wondering!

I can't stress enough how well it is written and definitely should not stay just under 20 reviews!

The Review:
1301 Total Votes have been cast and this one shot came out on top. It’s sweet, mysterious, spunky, and sexy all wrapped up together in one amazing story. GiveUsAKiss413 has really captured that first glance, that first spark, between two people so beautifully.


She's married.

I can tell. It's the way she won't meet my eyes, it's that look away blush.

It only makes sense that she is. She's young, but not young enough not to be married. She's got to be, unless she's a lesbian, or a feminist, or a career girl.

And that blush? She doesn't like pussy. And that skirt? She's not about to bust my balls.

And she's dressed nice, but not junior executive nice. Too much jewelry, no blackberry out.

She's fidgeting, just squirming around-she's itchy ants in her pants nervous. She wants it.

I bet she's a little bit wet, and all I'm doing is staring at her.

She's a good girl. Avoids my gaze. Doesn't smirk. There's no way she'd accept a drink if I sent a waitress over.

Besides, this is my favorite bar. I'm here a lot. The waitress would probably warn her.

Fucking tattletales.

I like her brown hair. There's no shit in it. No highlights, lowlights, added volume. It doesn't look crunchy.

I bet she let it dry in the sun.

I can see her, head tipped back, eyes closed, resting on some porch swing, leaning over, hair fanned out, sun hitting her. Then she's on my bed, eyes closed, legs open, hair fanned out. I'd leave the lights on. She'd like that. I can tell, because I can see a tiny bit of tit peaking out of her dress.

It's pretty, soft, the beginning of round.

She's the type to lotion up. I'd taste it on my tongue.

She's squirming harder, that blushing bride. She knows I'm thinking about her.

I tip my drink at her, and laugh when she looks away.

*waves* Wayward Girl here. Some of you might know of the All Hallows Eve One-shot Contest, yes? The winners have been chosen and part of their prize includes a review that will be posted on here and our sister site, Twificone. This is the last review of three, so make sure to check all of them out and enjoy! On with the review...

The Story: Cerulean and Steel

Summary: A chance encounter in a bookstore brings two people together… but is it really fate, or is some darker force at work? For Bella Swan, love and loss go hand in hand.

Have you ever wondered how far you’ll go for love? What would be the boundaries you’d cross to protect the ones you love, to keep them with you? Would you rob? Would you kidnap? Would you kill for love?

These are all questions that jumped to the forefront of my mind when I read Cerulean and Steel by TKegl — although at the time it was by writer ‘unknown’.

To be completely honest, the first time I read this One shot, I wasn’t sure what to think. On the one part, I’m a huge Canon lover, meaning I like Edward paired with Bella, Jasper paired with Alice, Emmett paired with Rosalie, etc, etc. So when I realized that Bella was dating Jasper, I wanted to stop reading. Of course, I couldn’t because I was a judge on the contest this One Shot was entered.

The fact that I was a judge in this contest was most fortuitous though, because it made me read something I normally wouldn’t. And let me tell you, the trip was totally worth the pain.

This story is not a Bella/Jasper, or a Bella/Jasper/Edward, although it may seem like it is to the untrained eye. This story is about Bella. It’s about the decisions and the compromises she makes, and how the consequences of her actions weigh heavily on her heart.

We start out with a vague scene. We know is a girl’s POV, but we don’t know who’s POV. It could be any of the Twilight female characters for all we know. From this brief introductory scene — which sets the mood for the whole One shot — we can already feel the weariness, the reluctance the female character feels towards performing whatever task the male character reminds her is time for.

However, something that stuck with me, not only from this introductory scene, but from the whole piece, was the tangible love you could feel between the unknown male character, and the unknown female character. You could feel they were one soul in two bodies, and you hurt for the lovers, even when you got to the end, and found out the true reach of their deeds on other people’s lives.

Like a modern Salome, TKegl dances a dance of seven veils with her words, slowly revealing the truths hidden behind the layers of melancholy that engulf our mystery girl. Once we find out she’s Bella, we want to know why she is so sad, so disillusioned with the world.

The city streets were busy, reminding me why I rarely ventured out onto them anymore. The crowds bothered me…the noise…the smells…the rudeness and irritation.


I wandered into a used bookstore, reveling in the quiet serenity of worn leather and musty pages. Browsing up and down the aisles, I idly picked up a coffee table book on Ireland.


Waiting.


Always waiting.

And then we meet Jasper.

"Can I help you find something?"


I looked up into a pair of kind blue-gray eyes, crinkled at the corners and framed by a pair of Buddy Holly glasses. A friendly smile lit his face, showing a hint of dimples in his cheeks.


He was just as beautiful as I remembered.


I had first spotted him at the coffee shop across the street. He'd caught my attention because, well, because he was uncommonly attractive – tall and lean, but muscled, with tousled blonde hair and a quick, devilish grin. A quick check revealed no wedding ring. But what really intrigued me was that
– despite the fact that the barista ruined his order twice – he still left her a tip, winking at her as he dropped a dollar in the jar before he left the café and walked across the street to the bookstore.


He had a kind heart. That was almost enough to make me leave him alone.


Almost.

Did your alarms go off when you read those lines? Because mine sure did when I read them. You know from those ominous words, that something is going to happen to poor sweet Jasper. You just know it. However, TKegl is a smart writer and she’s capable of lulling us into a false sense of security as we see the Jasper/Bella romance unfold. She almost convinced me. Almost.

There’s even a point in the story, where Bella feels like she’s falling for Jasper, and the whole time that was happening I was wondering: was Jasper the man in the first scene? Where is Edward?

I walked back into the living room after pouring two glasses of Jasper's wine. He took his with a smile, clinking it with mine. His eyes went to the portrait hanging over the fireplace.


"Who's that?" he asked.


I swallowed a gulp of wine. "My husband, Edward. He… passed away."

On No! You say? I did too. But trust me, with this story nothing is ever what it seems.

Reading this I felt a little bit like a cat playing with yarn, the more yarn I got out of my ball, the more tangled it got, and the more confused I felt. That is until I got to the climax of the story, and I have to admit, I said ‘No way’ out loud when I did.

I’m not going to spoil you the rest, because I really want you to read this One Shot. It ensnared my attention, and kept me literally at the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

TKegl managed to comprise in less than 10,000 words a whole short story, with love, pain, lost, death, happiness, so many other feelings, you feel at times overwhelmed while reading Cerulean and Steel.

It takes real talent to be able to tell such an intricate story in so very few words. And it takes even more ability to make it feel like whole entity, a whole story and not a rushed mockup of what could have been.

In the end, I felt drained. I felt as if I had lived a lifetime in 10,000 words, and I could fully sympathize with Bella’s final words in the story.

It was my burden.


It was my penance.

I was burned-out as well, and carried a new burden with me: the burden of knowing these characters’ fates.

This is not an easy read. It has many twists and turns. It will make you dizzy. It will hunt you for days after you’ve read it. It’s poignant, and let me assure you that you’ll feel what Bella feels on your very flesh.

I leave you with this Quote, from my favorite Shakespeare play, which for me summarizes Bella’s plight:

Hamlet:

I do repent; but heaven hath pleas'd it so

That I must be their scourge and minister.

I will bestow him, and will answer well

The death I gave him. So again good night.
