The search for something bigger than ourselves has been ingrained in us for generations. The fact of the matter is, it's in our nature as humans to be curious and ask questions. It's also in our nature to find the answers. That strive for answers has lead us from the depths of the oceans to the heights of the tallest mountains. Yet mysteries still litter our history and those that look for the answers are called many things...scientists... historians...and even treasure hunters. It doesn't matter if you're searching for a mystical treasure, like El Dorado the city of gold, or a more tangible piece of history, like the Titanic, people love a good treasure hunt. What they love more is a good romance. Put the two together and you have the formula for a Hollywood blockbuster, or at least you have one of my favorite fics Neutral Buoyancy by PiedPiperOSIB.

In this story Bella and her family attend a private cruise vacation on Edward's boat. Though Nautical Adventures cruise agency has a good reputation that's not the only reason why Bella's adopted father, Carlisle, chose Edward and his company. A few years ago Edward assisted in a successful treasure hunting mission featured on the Discovery Channel. Edward, though flattered, did not want to be taken on any wild goose chases through the Carribian, but when Carlisle shows Edward a real chance to solve one of Key's biggest mysteries he just can't resist. After about a month of preparations pass Edward is walking along the beach and saves a mysterious brunette from a few local drunks. It's one of those immediate connections but with the multi-month cruise setting sail in a few days luck wasn't on his side, or was it? When his mystery girl shows up at the docks Edward thinks his summer is looking up, but when she turns out to be the adopted daughter of his client Edwards summer just got a lot more complicated.

There is so much that I love about this story that I don't know where to start. I read the first two chapters of this story and was 100% hooked, which is good since that's all there was at the time. The characters just leap right off the page. They're complex, but at the same time they're very real. However one of my favorite things about this story is the amazing style it's written with. It takes a lot for me to completely fan girl over a story and I squeal every single update. This story not only tells a modern romance nearly flawlessly, but interwoven into the present story of Edward and Bella there's a whole different story of Marcus and Didyme, a story that occurred in 1659. Now period pieces aren't easy to do in any sense of the the word. They require hours of research to pull off effectively. When that past plot line isn't the only thing requiring your attention a plethora of things that could go wrong. Confusing time switches, waring plot lines, and sometimes just a plain disregard for facts. This story doesn't have those problems. Reading it you don't get the feeling that either one of the plot lines are struggling against each other for the limelight, they complement each other and by using a creative plot device in the form of an old journal written by the ship captain in 1659, now owned by Carlisle, we are not only able to see what happened in the past but how it is connected to the present.

As of now the two plot lines haven't necessarily met...but I have a feeling that it won't be too much longer before they do. I have high hopes for this little fic. It's beautifully written and constantly keeps me guessing. So...for all of my canon girls and guys this one is for you. Check it out and leave one of my favorite Twi-Dad's a little review love ;-)
